Why'd you have to leave me?

On that summer day.

Sitting by your bed side

when you wouldn't wake

All the laughs we shared.

All the things you taught me.

How you got me to drink coffee

Even though Mom and Dad said no.

Seeing you lie there, lifeless

made my stomach turn.

Leaving Grandma as she cried.

Walking through the front door

hearing that familiar squeak

I knew, you were gone.
