Shanna

By Ashley Dunham

I remember the light that morning after she died

The salty tears on my cheeks

The touch of her long sleek coat dulled by old age was still on my hands

Shanna was her name and she was my dog

We had been together all our lives

Eleven years together

That's what we had

But she was old

I told her it was her time

But that next morning as the light shone in my room

It was like the first day we were together

Her coat shinny and fluffy

That light of morning made me feel warm

She was ok

And she is still with me

We are still together

Whether I could see her or not

She is with me and she still is to this day
