The Perfect Morning

By M. VandeWege

Our canoe cuts through the curtain of fog

Being lifted with the sun.

Our poles are already prepared

In anticipation of good fishing

Nearing the bay we cease paddling .

The clear calm water parting before our prow

Jack pine rise out of the rocks before us

A fish jumps; A beaver slaps its tail

Its going to be a good day.
