Off We Go

by Casey Bledsoe

I remember waking up and throwing

my swimsuit on.

Running to the counter and struggling

to open the container with the mini

glazed doughnuts in.

Patiently waiting for my grandpa

to get his trunks on.

Finally stepping outside and breathing

in the palm tree air.

Trying to get my grandpa to walk

fast.  Taking one step onto the sand

and then full blast running to the bluish-

green water.  Closing my mouth

so I don't get sick from the salt.

My grandpa yelling to wait for him.

Him grabbing two boards to swim

on. Off we go into the ocean.

Picking up sand dollars on our way

out.  Hoping that the jellyfish don't

sting us.
