I Didn't Know
by Katie Hoff

At the age of sixteen

I didn't know I loved school

all of my friends here and the teachers too.

I didn't know I loved fall,

The sound of leaves crunching

and the sudden shiver I get.

I didn't know I liked being a girl until

I realized boys

are not that great.

I didn't know I loved old movies,

until my mother showed me the best ones

to watch over and over again

I never knew I loved my family so much.

Almost losing two members was like a shot put

being thrown on top of me.

I didn't know I love my best friend.

I didn't know I liked books,

reading throughout the summer.

I never knew how much I liked as a child,

not now.

I still don't know how I liked so

much, and I didn't know

how much I loved.
