The Field

By Ashley Larsen

Knowing it wasn’t right, we hopped right in,

started it up and then we were done. The rain

pounding on the windshield and the windshield wipers

on high speed. We raced around the field

like there was a cheata running after us.

Music full blast, singing so loud, not thinking

what’s next, E-brake cranked up. Then

there we were in the car turning in circles

while our hearts pounding so hard.

We wanted to do it again. Grass wet

from the rain, trees so close, there we go

again. Feeling like were flying in the air

our stomachs so high and hearts racing

so fast again. Bam! Hit the trees so hard

it sounds like the smashing of drums.

Then we were speechless, not moving,

having a feeling you will never have again.
