The Dog’s Story

By Emma E.

The dog is panting.  She won’t

Stop, the black hair on her back

Is sizzling hot. It’s unbearable.  There

Is barely any shade.  She whimpers.

I take her back inside with me and

Feel her back.  She is cooling down.

We’re going outside again, now

It’s cooler.  She walks out on

The grass and runs around.

Later we go in the field around

The pasture.  The grass scratching

My legs as we run.  She’s falling

Behind. Finally we’re back.

I stroke her coat. It’s now cool.
