Where I Come From

By Curtesa Scott

I come from my mom’s belly.

Sometimes I come from school, my neighborhood on the East side.

Sometimes I come from the sky.

I come from green grass, from mysteries inside my head,

from my writing and a big candy store.

Sometimes I pop out of trees.

I come from my pretty brown eyes, fired chicken, airplanes

my best friends’ heads and all our stories.

Sometimes I come from my examples.

I come from my smiles, my face, from my poems.

I come from playing tag, the candy man and many many ideas.

Sometimes I come from cake.

I come from secrets, the alphabet, and school work

from cotton candy and music.  I come from a lot of love.

Sometimes I come from storms.

I come from my crying, and good hotdogs.  I come from math

from writing, from reading, and experiments.

Sometimes I come from spider webs.

I come from planets, from Pa Nhia’s head.  I come from all

my teachers, from everything they’ve taught me.

Sometimes I come out and bloom.
