The Stone

A stone I will find one, someday.  A stone I will find one some day.  Will the day be today?  Sorry.  The desert is very hot.  I had never been hotter, I thought to myself.  I had eaten all my snacks, and I was wondering if I’d ever find the stone.  Then, I noticed something glowing.  It must be the stone.

It was.  I passed out.  When I woke up I was tied to a stool in a shack.  The stone, I wondered if it was still in my bag.  I stayed silent and over heard them talking about the stone.   They must not have searched me because I heard them say they were going to kill whomever had the stone.   I had to get out of there.  I had to run, but I was tied to the stool.  I saw a knife with a sharp blade.  I inched my stool over and grabbed it, and starting cutting the rope.  The rope was thick so I kept cutting and then it broke.  I had to get back to Atlanta .  I had a plane to catch, so I snuck out of the shack and ran.

I wondered if they knew I was gone.  Would they track me down?  I covered my face and made my way through the airport to security.  I almost got to the checkpoint when a Fire and Weapons specialist hit me on the legs and took me out of the line.

They put me in a car and left the airport.  They kept me for several weeks, but again I was able to sneak away.  I went back to Atlanta , back home.  They were still looking for me.  I stayed at my partner’s house.  They did bad things to my house.  I saw it on the news.  They said they were still looking for me.

Days turned into weeks.  Weeks turned into months.  Months into years.  And years into decades.

I told you I would find the stone one day.  Now if I took it back, could you find it?
