An Early Morning

Shh, everyone is asleep.

You go outside and sit

On the porch swing to

Watch the big, yellow ball

Of light lift into the sky.

You smell the sweet scent of

Dew still on the grass.

You watch the mischievous squirrel

Steal seeds from the bird feeder.

In the distance you can

hear the neighbor’s cows

You see the little fawns play

Out in the field.

In the old cedar there is a bird
