I was drawing what I smelled the sizzling eggs and bacon. Sniff! Toast and hash browns brown to the touch .I wasn’t eggs-actly an artist but I could dream! My Grandpa says you can be anything. Speaking of Grandpa I’m meeting him at the Lazy River to fish and eat our picnic. I cannot wait!
Finally it was time for the boat/fishing ride.
We took ham sandwiches and cool apple cider. My sandwich had a little slice of cheddar cheese. My sister got an M&M cookie and my Grandpa got Canada worms. Not to eat to catch fish with. It was a hot summer day in Massachusetts. We took our rods and walked down to the Lazy River. Over the green grass hill we went.
“Grandpa?” I say, “Yes young fella?” He replied.
“How are we going to fish if we have no boat?” Right away I saw it a purple-reddish boat sat in the water.
”Hop on said my Grandpa.
So I did and so did my sister. My name is Al.
I’ve got brown hair and brown eyes like coca beans.
I’m five years old. My sister is Moll she has brown hair with blond streaks. She is ten.
After we got on we started fishing.
”Grandpa?” I say. ”Yes young fella” ”Can we have our sandwiches now?” ”Sure”, He says. So my sister and me eat our sandwiches.
It’s cooled me and Grandpa and Moll are fishing on our boat. There is mist coming up and the water is like a big bathtub, warm but not hot. There are a lot of rocks and it’s hard to sail. I get out on one rock and throw out my rod. There are pine trees that are like big giants. The smell of pine needles is everywhere. A perfect catch. I get back in the boat and let the fish go.
“Look, a deer.” Grandpa says. They were all coming out. Splash! Grandpa just fell into the … “Grandpa!”
So I dive in and all of a sudden I can’t breathe. The eggish yellow sun is going down and so am I. I feel all tingly and … I feel Grandpa! I pull him up and coughing pull him onto the boat. Moll is screaming and someone from the village came rowing out to help us.
Once we’re back at their village we use a payphone to call Mom. She said she’d drive our boat and us home the next day. It had been a fun day – I couldn’t wait for tomorrow.
We’re waiting for Mom to come pick us up. After Grandpa fell, we fell asleep in a haystack. The people of the new place made us all pancakes and a huge glass of pink OJ. We decided to pass the time while fishing.
“Mommy!” I exclaimed as I saw her car pull up. We told her about our exciting adventure and went home.
