A Truly Golden Golden Retriever

Cheeseball, a golden retriever with silky hair, smelled smoke. He looked around and saw a fire in the kitchen. He started to bark. His family evacuated the 15 story apartment immediately. Cheeseball followed behind them and counted five dogs (Chili, Robin, Rover, Rusty, and himself).

Everybody was outside the apartment except a little husky named Misty.

Rover and Rusty had found Misty in the crowded street of New York while taking a walk. "Where's Misty?" Cheeseball asked. "She's probably still in the building," Chili said with panic in his voice.

Cheeseball panicked. He ran into the apartment and pressed the button on the elevator to get to the 12th floor where he lived. When the elevator wouldn't open, Cheeseball got frustrated and started banging on the buttons.

When it still wouldn't open, he got exasperated and just ran up the steps.

When he got to his apartment, he flung open the door and shouted "Misty!

Misty, where are you?" He found Misty trapped under the piano (or what used to be the piano - it now was a pile of ash and burning wood) inside a circle of flames. "Help me Cheeseball!" Misty cried. Cheeseball was scared but he knew he had to help Misty.

He jumped into the fire with flames licking up his side. Cheeseball grabbed Misty and ran down the steps taking them four at a time, which is a record for dogs. But, Cheeseball wasn't thinking about records. All he was thinking about was getting Misty and himself to safety. When they finally reached the door, Cheeseball threw it open. He ran outside and dropped Misty to safety and then collapsed. "Cheeseball, are you okay?" Robin the baby retriever asked. Cheeseball opened one eye and said, "I am okay, I'm just exhausted." "Thank you Cheeseball. You are a truly golden golden retriever," Misty said. "Thank you."
